La cena è servita!

As a child I spent many evenings visiting my Great Grandparents outside Philadelphia, where upon entering you would practically melt at the heavenly aromas from the kitchen.  My brother and I would sprint to the tiny retro stool nestled in the corner and fight over who got to sit up and watch the magic unfold in the tiny alley kitchen.  Now, for you to fully understand how amazing the cooking was I must tell you that before immigrating to America, my Great Grandmother Teresa and her sister Adela owned a ristorante in Italy.  There they mastered all realms of Northern Italian dishes including ravioli that would melt in your mouth giving way to the masterful filling of meats, cheeses and herbs.  And my favorite, pizza dough with the perfect combination of chewy and crunchy textures topped with only the BEST mozzarella.  Ok, now my mouth is watering…

Today I keep the photo below of Teresa and Adela in my kitchen to remind me of their culinary talents and hopefully inspire me to be creative with my cooking.  So last Sunday I figured why not combine my love of cooking and love of photography by photographing some freshly made pasta.  Yes, I cheated and used a stand mixer with pasta maker attachment, but I’m fairly sure if my Great Grandmother had that technology at her disposal she would have tossed that rolling pin aside and embraced the electric alternative too!  I hope you enjoy the photos and they inspire you to get in the kitchen and get cooking.  La cena è servita!
