Today my very dear Great Aunt Pat DeStefano will be laid to rest. The thought of not seeing her smiling face every time I return home to Philly still tears me apart inside. Her smile lit up the room while her laughter…and albeit sometimes crude jokes, were always the center of the fun at every family gathering. As the last survivor of her siblings, we now say goodbye to that generation of our Valentine family. Though this is an inevitable part of life, I feel blessed to have known Aunt Pat as well as my other family members who have gone. And I feel even more blessed to have so many priceless portraits and snapshots of my loved ones. I could never compare my career and passion as a photographer to the importance of doctors, engineers, teachers etc.; however, I do feel we photographers have an important role in this world. We take precious moments in time and freeze them to last forever. I truly hope my images will bring smiles to families’ faces for years to come like this baby portrait of my Aunt Pat always brings a smile to mine.
I also want to remind you don’t stop taking those snapshots! You never know when a family member will come across one of your photos years from now and fall in LOVE like I did with this great front yard snapshot.
Goodbye Aunt Pat, I love you forever.
