I am so VERY excited to share with you Matt & Katie’s gorgeous country wedding in Wilmington, Delaware. If you missed their sneak peek, I should say this was a very special wedding for me. Not to say that every wedding I photograph isn’t special, but it’s not every time the groom is your cousin! The photos below are a compilation of my work as well as my amazing assistant, Michelle Turek Photography based in Rochester, New York.
Matt & Katie are both teachers in the Philadelphia area and probably two of the most laid back people I know. Their sheer happiness and love for their family shined through in every detail of their wedding.
They chose the Carriage House at Rockwood Park in Wilmington, DE for their ceremony and reception. Such a beautiful location with countless opportunities for portraits, including this drop dead gorgeous conservatory.
For Katie’s bridesmaid gifts she gave her ladies robes customized with their initials (from Wedding Prep Gals) as well as a necklace with a word to best describe each lovely lady (from Out of the Blue’s Etsy Store). So clever!
Who doesn’t love a little girl playing dress up in some MEGA heels?!
Ok, Matt wins major points for romance…though maybe not for his gift wrapping ability. 😉 Not only did he write Katie a beautiful card that brought her to tears, he included a pile of saved ‘sticky’ love notes that he would leave her in her lunch box during the school year. Freaking adorable!
Despite the hot sticky weather that struck the east coast the week of their wedding, they elected for an outdoor first look as well as portraits. I did my best to find them shade while my ever so amazing friend and second shooter, Michelle Turek Photography, kept towels nearby to help them cool off.
Sicking with their laid back country theme, Katie choose preserved white roses, hydrangea, and babies breath for her flowers. All flowers were made by aunt’s company, Fig Tree Farm. Secret bonus I decided for preserved flowers…they are SOOOO light! No heavy bouquets to carry or boutonnières to wear.
Katie’s “something borrowed” was her mother’s delicate gold wedding band. And why not get another photo of her adorable niece too. 😉
Elegantly simple dried hydrangea wreaths lined the isle at the ceremony and Katie’s cute as a button nephew carried a homemade wooden sign (made by none other than Uncle Matt himself with materials from Michaels) that coordinated with his stinking adorable checkered suspenders.
Talk about another personal touch, the wooden sign as guests entered the ceremony was hand painted by Katie’s mom on a door from Katie’s childhood home. Cue the sighs….awwwww.
Their rustic/teaching theme continued into the reception with a vintage suitcase for cards and a card catalogue for seating chart. Not to mention clean center pieces of vintage books and mason jars accented with heart shaped chalk boards for table numbers. Love!
The adorable love bird cake topper was gift from Katie’s sister bought from Dances with Clay’s Etsy store.
During the reception guests were treated to caricatures of themselves by Colin Harris.
